It's Parade Time Again!

The City of Gaithersburg, MD 74th annual Labor Day Parade is upon us and Troop 1097 needs your support to make the troop fundraiser a success for 2012.  Funds awarded go towards the purchase of camping gear for the troop.

 

Scouts, Leaders, Parents, Family and their Friends hold a long tradition for volunteering and participating in the City of Gaithersburg’s Labor Day parade to ensure it is enjoyed by all.  

This year the Department of Parks and Recreation staff is requesting our Troop to provide the following volunteers.

10 Marshals  - Senior/experience scouts, Leaders/Adults - Monitor the parade to maintain events/participants progress in an orderly and timely manner.**** Same format as last year will be utilized.****

12 Banner Carriers -  Six groups of two to carry banners during the parade..***Great opportunity for young scouts to be on camera and seen on TV.

Leaders or Adults - to assist with food, drinks, meeting scouts at the end of the parade and possibly monitoring banner carriers along the parade route.

6 Parade Stagers – Three groups of two  - Senior scouts/leaders/parents or possible scouts/parent combo for Staging parade participant as they obtain their position for lineup to march in the parade.
 
Stagers will meet at Public Storage by no later than 9am.  Volunteers must be able to be on-time, take shuttle from Lake Forest Mall to sign in/volunteer location at Public Storage on East Diamond/Guiard St. or walk. 
 
Task is complete once all parade participants are marching (1:30 to 1:45 pm).

This is a fun event.  School service hours are available.  The majority of participants  will be able to watch and enjoy  the parade once their assignment is complete. 

Uniform: Class A uniform

Equipment: Water and proper clothing such as hats, sun screen depending on weather conditions of the day.

Lunch will be served.  This is a family as well as a friend event.  The parade route is through Olde Towne in Gaithersburg, MD via East Diamond Dr. and Russell St.

We need you to do the following: 

 

1.  Notify Patty Baer and/or John Sickman if you can or can’t participate and/or have interest in a particular volunteer position for the parade.


2.  Register for the event on the troop’s web site as soon as possible.

 

3. Turn in permission slips by the meeting of August 23.
 
   ****Arrangements can be made for the turn in of permission slips after August 23 if necessary.*****
