The Out Island Adventure is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to live on a rugged barrier island. You begin your adventure by paddling roughly 6 miles out to Big Munson, an island only inhabited by boy scouts. During your stay you have the opportunity to fish for your dinner, fish for sharks, snorkel, kayak through a mangrove maze, explore the island, and work on your tan. Please note that activities are dictated by weather, tides and the ability of the crew. Your activity plan can vary, sometimes widely, due to these factors.

The Out Island Adventure combines camping on a remote 100+ acre island, snorkeling on pristine coral reefs, trolling for sport-fish, kayaking through mangroves, and exploring the flora and fauna of Big Munson Island.  This is a seven day event.  The total cost will be approximately $1500+ which includes the cost of Seabase, the flight to Ft. Lauderdale, and transportation from the airport to Summerland Key.

A payment schedule will be created after we have been notified of our winning lottery submission.  Crews are 8 people including 2 adults & 6 Scouts per crew.  We now have 2 crews registered to attend in summer 2019.  We just received notice that our lottery entry in Feb, 2018, was successful!

General Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Each participant must be a registered Boy Scout,  or registered Adult Leader.
  2. Participants must be 13 years of age and graduating from the 8th grade prior to arriving at Seabase.

Tentative plan is to leave from BWI via Southwest Airlines and arrive in Fort Lauderdale by 9am. We then take a shuttle bus via Blue Sky Adventures to Sea Base, about a 4-hour drive.

2 crews of 6 Scouts & 2 Adults each.
